The seller of this Hemi-powered 1952 Chrysler New Yorker four-door sedan listed on Hemmings.com seems almost apologetic about the Mexican-blanket upholstery covering the beat-up original interior, but it all seems a part with the bare steel wheels, the lettering, and the select accessories adorning the car. That is, this isn’t a car for serious competition, whether on the show field or under power; instead, it’s a car for driving for just the pure pleasure of driving. From the seller’s description:
This “semi auto” car has the original 331 1st series Hemi in it. Fluid Torque Drive. Mechanically perfect. Alternator added for better power. All original, un-restored. Carrera Nevada veteran (the Carrera placards on the back doors are magnets I had made from the originals), as well as Four Corners. Great history. Some period graphics were added but they can be buffed off if you don’t like it. Interior in great shape. No rust. New wheel bearings, brake cylinders and custom exhaust. I wouldn’t hesitate to drive this car anywhere. Motor original and un-touched. Generator was done away with and alternator was added for better power. Only thing that does not work in clock. I have the original hub caps for it. Front seat and top of back seat is kind of beat up hence the Mex blankets.
This is a strong running original car with it’s original Hemi 331ci. I would not hesitate to drive this car anywhere.Has zero issues.
This car was formally owned by Martin Swig, whom was the San Fran Chronicle Auto writer for years. He sat on the board at Pebble and co-founded the Cannonball Rally.
My family and I have used it for shows for the last 4 years but now it’s time to move on. I have other cars and bikes and just no room now.
