In the lowbrow and hot rod art scene, few artists of the last 20 years are more prolific or revered than Keith Weesner, whose signature style mixing noir, retrofuturism, crazy customs and hot rods, and curvy women has earned him a loyal following and extensive showings. A few hot rod builders have even paid him the ultimate tribute by executing in steel what Weesner had previously only envisioned in ink and acrylic.
So it’s natural that filmmaker Brian Darwas, who has produced a number of hot rod flicks, including A Sweet Sickness, Devil At Your Feet, and This is Long Beach, stopped by Weesner’s studio to interview Weesner for a short film on how he got started and what inspires him.
