Auto mechanics are the doctors we often trust to heal our old cars, but the analogy only goes so far – after all, would you trust your mechanic to perform surgery on you, or would you trust your family physician to restore your old car? In the case of Dr. John Elliott, whose restored 1957 Pontiac Star Chief two-door hardtop made it to the pages of SIA #198, December 2003, as a restoration profile written by Craig Fitzgerald and photographed by Richard Lentinello, you probably would. The restoration took quite a bit of hands-on work, little of which Elliott was afraid to dive in and do himself.
