What would cause somebody to buy this four-door 1955 Pontiac Star Chief for sale on Hemmings.com and then only put 26,700 miles on it? While we think of it as a cool classic today, neither when it was new nor today would anybody see it necessarily in the same light as a convertible or hardtop, something only to be taken out on special occasions. It certainly has many more miles left on it, so why shouldn’t its new owner start racking them up? From the seller’s description:
Original Interior and Paint…and it has Power Steering and Brakes!!! 4 speed, Hydra-Matic V-8 287 cu. inch, 200-HP engine (gets 13-14 MPG!!!). This Star Chief has just over 26,700 original miles on it and runs and drives like a top. I just had a bearing replacement on the rear axel and now it drives super smooth and changes gears smoothly.
This is not a restored car, but a car that has been very well preserved over the years. I purchased it from the original owner who was from the West. The practically rust free body is arrow straight with perfect seams and alignment and all hood doors and trunk lid fit tight and secure as they did in 1955. All glass and weatherstripping are original to the car and in perfect condition (no cracks or any other glass imperfections). The interior of the Pontiac is all original and in excellent condition…even the tube driven radio still works. The engine starts right up with the first turn of the key and idles smooth with no smoke or hesitation and the automatic transmission shifts quickly with out any problems. A new set of radial tires have also been put on and the fuel tank was removed and cleaned.
This beautiful Pontiac is a rare gem and is turn key ready.
