While we often like to point out how our carspotting series shows the everyday, the mundane, as it actually appeared on the streets in days gone by – how it presents a more accurate snapshot of how we interacted with automobiles than the curated glimpses we see at car shows nowadays – today’s carspotting image shows the exact opposite, something extraordinary and totally unrelated to everyday driving. Instead, it’s the start of the 1959 24 Hours of Le Mans, as depicted on the cover of the program for the following year’s race (which we came across on The Oldie But Goodie). Sure, you can look up the race entrants by number to identify the cars here, but what sort of a challenge is that? Instead, tell us what you see here.
