Nope, not stock. Of course, the wheels and B.F.Goodrich tires on this 1968 Plymouth Barracuda for sale on Hemmings.com gave that little bit away. But it’s no slapdash hot rod either, as we see from the extensive list of modifications and upgrades and the description of its down-to-bare-metal restification. As it sits, it not only looks new, but appears as if it performs better than new. From the seller’s description:
It started life as a 318/904 car, but that engine combo gave way to 340′s in the late ’70s into the ’80s. I have owned this car since 1998, when it had 36,000 original miles. I ran into quite a few people who knew the car from being an East Oakland street racing car back in the ’80s and earlier. It never saw much mileage, never saw much weather, and was never wrecked.
I stripped the interior down to the floor pans and they were perfect. I stripped the bottom of the car to bare metal and found zero rust. All the sheetmetal on this car is original and in great shape. I have owned a restoration shop for the past 12 years and have put well over 500-600 hours in this car. This car retains its original fender tag. It was built on Tuesday, July 11, 1968, during the last week of production of 1968 model year cars.
Exterior/Body: Car was stripped to bare metal, front/rear glass popped, all trim removed and repainted in original PPG Matador Red. New white tape stripe from Phoenix Graphix installed. I have pictures of how much filler remained on the body before primer went on. It was only floated enough to make it straight. no rust anywhere. none. Car was in amazingly great shape. The bottom of the car was stripped to bare metal and painted satin black. I found that not many Barracudas (all 3 body styles included) had this interior/exterior color combo from the factory, so that’s why I chose to restore it to stock colors.
