While it’s easy to deride modern SUV overs for never taking their vehicles off road and putting that four-wheel drive to good use, there’s at least a silver lining to that approach, as we can see from this never-off-roaded 1988 Dodge Raider for sale on Hemmings.com: There’s more of a chance the SUV will remain in good shape. Of course, it helps that this Raider spent a few years in storage and appears to have never been driven on salted roads. From the seller’s description:
Incredible off-roader! Restored. It’s very rugged, with an oversized frame for the size of vehicle, protection plates for the engine, drive shaft, and fuel tank-all in good shape. While I don’t think this one has ever been off-road, it can go up to the hubs in sand due to great traction with 4 wheel drive. Options include auto locking hubs, factory AC and rear wiper. The driver’s seat has a lever to operate it on an adjustable shock absorber if the going really gets rough. 4 wheel drive low range is a 60 percent drop in gearing for serious climbing. Stated approach angle is 38 degrees. Overall condition is better than you could expect from something of this age. Miles are super low, because this one was stored for 13 years. When it was brought out of storage, the engine was fully serviced, a new battery was installed, and the carburetor was upgraded to a Weber. With the Weber it gets better gas mileage, and is very easy to adjust. Tuned to run at sea level. I put on 4 quality all-season tires with 85,000 mile guarantee. No engine or interior leaks. No rust. Paint is very nice.
