While we most commonly associate Weslake with Ford V-8 engines, Chevrolet and Yenko did work with the British tuner to build a number of aluminum pushrod-activated 32-valve cylinder heads for the small-block Chevrolet V-8 – reportedly 100 were planned, but only 10 sets were built, and only three assembled into full engines. This Yenko-Weslake 32-valve Chevrolet smal-block V-8 for sale on Hemmings.com is one of those three assembled engines, originally built by Alan Smith Racing Engines in England, and the only one not in Speedy Bill Smith’s museum, according to the seller. From his description:
this incredible 32 Valve Weslake Chevrolet is the Holy Grail of period Small Block Chevrolet performance engines. Commissioned by Chevrolet this was a collaborative effort between Chevrolet and Weslake Engineering. Only three complete engines were originally built and only ten pairs of heads cast. This 355 ci Weslake Chevrolet engine was one of the three complete engines and was originally built by Alan Smith for Weslake Engineering in the U.K. It has recently been show finished and rebuilt for street use.
The engine also comes with an extra pair of original Weslake head castings, a spare Weslake valley pan and valve cover as well as original race parts – dry sump oil pan, 90-degree drive Ronco Vertex magneto and Lucas slide injection.
