Jeep’s CJ-8 Scrambler, launched in 1981, was intended to take advantage of the mini pickup craze of the day, but apparently Jeep forgot to tell consumers this. Puzzled by the half-pickup, half-Jeep contraption, buyers largely ignored the Scrambler when it was on dealer lots (making it highly collectible today), but Jeep did sell roughly 250 units to the U.S. Postal Service for evaluation. This 1984 Jeep CJ8 Scrambler, for sale on Hemmings.com, served its civic duty by delivering mail in Alaska, racking up considerable mileage before its retirement from government service. Partially restored in 2005, the right-hand drive Jeep features a new engine, rebuilt four-wheel drive and a 2008 repaint. Stored since then, the Scrambler will need some TLC before returning to the roads or trails, but as one of around 100 surviving Postal Jeeps, this is a 4×4 worth saving. This is “STAMP”, a 1984 Jeep CJ-8 Alaskan postal jeep. There were only 250 made and rumored to be about 100 of them left.
Partially restored in 2005 with: new engine, new tires, new brakes, new exhaust, rebuilt 4X4. Features include right-hand drive, roll bar, driving/fog lights, cargo net, center console, power brakes and power steering. Exterior displays black aftermarket wheels, wheel flares and 2008 repaint. Interior has replacement seats and spray-on liner. Bikini top (show in last picture) and vehicle cover included in sale. Both in very good condition.
Odometer reads 74,079 but has rolled over. Restoration occurred when odometer read 64,669 (10K miles ago).
Vehicle has been garage stored for 6+ years while owner lived overseas. Recently appraised in “Sound” condition by AAG appraiser.
