Japanese automotive giant Honda isn’t just unveiling new models and concepts at this year’s North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit—it’s declaring 2015 the “Year of Honda.” The brunt of Honda’s focus at the 2015 NAIAS is on its FCV Concept, which is making its North American debut. Despite having the word “Concept” in its name, the FCV is slated for a 2016 U.S. release as a production model—one which Honda estimates will have a range “in excess of 300 miles,” with seating for five. The FCV’s fuel cell stack is 33 percent smaller than that of the outgoing FCX Clarity model, with a 60 percent increase in power density. Honda FCV fuel cell The FCV isn’t the only noteworthy Honda at Detroit, however. The curtains are finally off the long-awaited all-new Acura NSX, with the announcement that orders can be placed starting this summer for delivery later this year. Honda also announced a new generation of advanced powertrain vehicles that it aims to have in the U.S. market by 2018. Among these will be a new plug-in hybrid, a new battery-electric vehicle, and the expanded application of two- and three-motor hybrid systems throughout Honda’s lineup. Also arriving by the end of the “Year of Honda” will be its new four-cylinder VTEC Turbo engines, an all-new HR-V crossover, and a redesigned Pilot SUV. The flat-out coolest Honda at this year’s Detroit Auto Show might just be the one you won’t see on any road—it’s the HondaJet. A North Carolina-made advanced light jet propelled by a pair of GE/Honda HF-120 turbofan engines mounted over-the-wing to reduce drag, HondaJet deliveries are expected to begin this year, taking the “Year of Honda” to the skies.
