So there’s a little rust on this 1971 Fiat 850 Berlina for sale on Hemmings.com, it has a smashed windshield, and its engine has been all torn down. That just means it’s a good starting point for a project car, especially for folks who aren’t intimidated by parts searches and offbeat vehicles, and for folks who might not have that much room to work on a car. If the seller comes through with a new windshield for the next owner, even better. From the seller’s description:
This car was imported and sold by Fiat in the United States and spent its entire life in Georgia. I bought it from the original owner and have the original Georgia title from 1971 showing it was purchased “new”. This body style – the 850 Berlina sedan – is extremely rare and you will probably never see another one.
If you are looking for an unusual eye catching car that will be adored by all, this is it. With the resurgence of Fiat in the United States, now is a great time to bring this classic Fiat back to the streets. This car is nearly complete and will have you chasing only a couple parts to complete the restoration. Considering the rust issues with Fiats and most cars of the era, this one is remarkably good condition.
All original complete car. The engine is disassembled but and neatly packed in boxes. All the parts are there. It was taken apart to be rebuilt but that is far as the owner got. I don’t know what was wrong with it but no visible problems with the block, head, or pistons. The windshield is smashed and I’m sourcing a new one. All the rest of the glass, trim, chrome, lights, etc are in good condition except the front right turn signal and the front emblem has a small piece missing. The interior is in fair/good condition. One rip on the driver seat along the seam but it could be mended. The wheel wells where the rocker panel meets the wheel well have small half dollar size holes. The floor pans have some rust through especially in the middle of each pan, a tennis ball size hole at worst. Also the front splash shield is rusted through down low. The rest of it looks very good. No rust issues on the exterior body or elsewhere.
