Hemmings Find of the Day – A pair of 1967 Mercury Cougars

1967 Mercury Cougar

Prices for muscle cars show no sign of dropping any time soon, which means that those of limited budget may be priced out of the market, even for project cars. That’s what makes this 1967 Mercury Cougar GT so attractive: The price is less than you’d spend for a reliable used family sedan, and it includes a second base-model 1967 Mercury Cougar to use as a parts car. The black Cougar GT comes with a period-correct 390-cu.in. V-8 mated to a four-speed manual transmission, but both items are currently out of the car (perhaps saving the next owner time on the teardown). The white Cougar comes with its 302-cu.in. V-8 in place, and is said to have a decent interior, but issues with rust. Build one car and part out the other? Build one to sell and one to drive? The choice is up to the cars’ next owner. From the seller’s description:

1967 Cougar GT. “S” Code car. 390 FE motor, 4 speed, 9″ – 3.25 ratio Equa-Lok rear, factory disc brakes and correct styled steel wheels. Have date codes for block, and tranny, and they are all correct for original components. Deluxe Marti report available. Engine, tranny and interior currently out of the car. Car resided in Arizona and New Mexico. Solid body and components, but needs restoration and assembly. Price includes running and driving 1967 standard hardtop with 302, C4, 8 inch rear and drum brakes. The 302 car is from mid-west and has some rust issues, but has a decent interior. Build a nice Big Block car with the best parts, and create a race car or street warrior with the leftovers. Both vehicles have clear NM title in my name. Will not separate vehicles – they will be sold together! Black car in pictures is “S” Code, White car in pictures is 302 car.
