Interestingly, when the seller of this 1962 Datsun Bluebird station wagon for sale on Hemmings.com notes that it was imported to the United States several years ago, it appears that it wasn’t imported from Japan – as we can see from the left-hand-drive setup – but from Mexico – as we can see from the “Mexico” badge in one of the photos (Captain Obvious says you’re welcome and that he’ll be here all week). Wherever it came from, it appears to be in solid shape, with a few customizations made to it over the years, including the entire interior redone in grey cloth. From the seller’s description:
Never available in the US, this example was imported in great shape several years ago when it was treated to light restorative and mechanical work and a stereo install, upholstery work, service and tune.
A three on the tree manual car with a fully synchronized gearbox, the 310 Bluebird was marketed as a rugged little car and sold well in Scandinavian countries, Africa and Central America. We are pleased to report this example appears to have escaped such a fate, instead enjoying what seems to be an easy life.
Given the surge in pricing of early Datsuns and making the covers of the classic car trade press, we think this is an excellent candidate for anyone looking to beat this emerging market. Or think about brakes, suspension and an S-13 running gear conversion complete with an SR20DET. It’s hard not to!
