Reader Robert Rollins recently sent us a CD full of photos of old cars he’d shot as submissions for our Abandoned Autos calendar, and while most of them didn’t make the cut as calendar material, we thought they were still worth sharing, so we called Robert to get some details on the cars.
Robert, a resident of Calhoun, Georgia, said all the photos came from his frequent trips to go see his family in Boise, Idaho, which explains why the cars and their setting all look decidedly Western and not Southern. “Every time I visit, we three brothers head out to this junkyard and just go wandering around,” he said. “It’s a great place, with these old-fashioned Western people running it.”
As it turns out, the junkyard is L&L Classic Auto in Wendell, Idaho, the one that put its inventory of 8,000 cars up for sale last February. We called L&L to see whatever came of that effort to liquidate—the ad on Hemmings.com has since expired or been removed, but their website is still up and running—but have yet to hear back from them.
In the meantime, we can at least take a stroll through L&L via Robert’s photos and imagine what we’d do with all that Western sheetmetal.
If you’ve been out traipsing through junkyards and would like to share your photos from the experience, let us know! We’d be more than happy to post the results here.
