Unless you’ve been around for a very long time, you probably think John Force has been associated with Ford since Day One. It only feels that way: The wonderfully verbose Funny Car legend, the NHRA’s all-time winningest driver with 18 national Funny Car championships, did the bulk of his winning in Ford-bodied floppers. But Force was a Chevy guy from the outset and now that Ford has realigned its priorities in racing, he is reunited with Chevrolet for the 2015 season. All three John Force Racing Funny Car teams will boast Camaro bodywork, and the team’s Top Fuel dragster will carry bowtie signage, as well.
In the late 1970s, when Force was starting out as a Funny Car independent, he raced his self-owned Brute Force rig with Corvette bodywork. As the 1980s unfolded and Force rose to superstardom, he ran a Cavalier, a Citation (!) and took the 1994 NHRA Funny Car title in a Lumina, winning an amazing 10 times in 11 final-round appearances.
Another big change for Force involves the sponsorship logos on his carbon-fiber bodies. After a decades-long association with Castrol, the motor oil, Force’s primary sponsor is now Peak, the coolant, leaving the cars colored a bright blue.
